Can you believe it is 2018?!

I cannot. I don’t know about you, but for us, 2017 flew by and the next thing we knew it was 2018. But before we get too deep into the year, I wanted to make sure that took a few minutes to give thanks for all the wonderful things that happened in Nicaragua in 2017.

In fact, all of us at With One Hope want to say thank you to each and every one of you that helped make 2017 possible. You prayed for us, encouraged us, and supported us financially. Because of your love, generosity, and dedication to our cause we were able to bring hope to the hopeless, love to the unloved, and spread the gospel within Nicaragua.

We will all be forever grateful for the support you have provided.

That said, let’s start the celebration! Drum roll please….

1. Joy, joy, and more joy!

We believe there is a reason why the Bible talks about joy so much. When we have joy, we are able to look past whatever unpleasant circumstances we are facing in the moment and focus in on the beauty that surrounds us. The beauty of God’s love, the beauty of the world itself, and the beauty of the relationships that help add meaning to our lives.

As we work with our students and families, Walter strives day-in and day-out to help remind them of the joy that is possible in life. As you can see from the picture above and many of the pictures below – he does a great job of it.

2. Feeding the Body and the Mind

While our calling as Christians is to spread the gospel, Jesus makes it very clear that we are ALSO called to feed, clothe, and provide for the most vulnerable in the world. As I reflect on our families and students, I can’t help but think that they are the exact kind of people that Jesus is referring to.

For many of our students and families, the meals they eat at our school and via our food packet program are too often the only meal they get all day. These are growing children.

Without your help, there would be many days where those same children would go hungry. All day without food.

That is the difference between malnutrition and a shot at being healthy.

At the same time ALL of the children in our programs are in school getting the education many of them never would have had access to if it wasn’t for your support.

3. Healing the Body

In addition to feeding programs, we have also been able to step into the void when multiple of our kids faced life-threatening health scares. Your donations have literally enabled us to be the salve that binds and heals the wounds of the broken.

When Yaris needed to have her Appendix taken out we were there to rush her to the hospital and purchase the medicine, bandages, and the proper food to heal.

When Brian and Anthony had a contagious skin disease we were there to purchase the medication the hospital wouldn’t provide for free.

When there was a breakout of Pink Eye in our preschool in Leon, we brought the medication needed when the families couldn’t make the multiple mile long walk to the closest hospital.

4. Feeding the Soul

The Gospel lies at the heart of all we do. We yearn for the day when there will be no more suffering, no more pain. The day when Christ comes back and heals everything that is broken, restoring us and the world to what we were intended to be.

As we wait for that day we are doing all that we can do to share the good news of the gospel with anyone and everyone we can. As a result, we have seen multiple families come to the know the love of the King. Walter has also continued to invest his time into children’s programs at his local church with amazing results.

Over the past year the number of children attending each Sunday has grown from under 20 to over 80. That is more than 4 times the number of souls getting to hear the gospel week-in and week-out.

Additionally, much of the curriculum that we use in our schools is centered around the lessons of the King. His words, His truths, His love is at the heart of all Walter teaches.

Children and parents alike are learning that they have value in the eyes of the King, are loved deeply by both the Lord and by us, and can place their hope in the promises he makes.

It is a beautiful thing to watch.

5. There is so much more!

I could go on and on about all the great things that happened this past year. We have been so blessed to have each one of you as a partner, to have Walter fighting day-in and day-out in Nicaragua, and to have the favor of the Lord in what we are doing.

We are looking forward to 2018 and everything that we have planned. But before we share those plans I want to end with saying thank you one more time.

From all of us at With One Hope we are forever grateful.
